I had booked many package tours before, but it felt more like ticking things off a list than actually learning. The large groups often didn't gel well, and I lacked someone who took a genuine, personal interest in me.

Jost took me by the hand and guided me specifically through the challenges I faced. He took the time to address my issues and remained good-humored and cheerful - even out on the mountain; he handles everything with complete composure, thereby instilling a sense of security and self-confidence.

After reaching the unclimbed summit of Purbung (6,485 m) with Jost, I realized that this is exactly the kind of expedition I want to undertake. Jost managed to bring out capabilities in me that I hadn't been sure I possessed.

The skills I developed at the Altitude Academy have boosted my self-confidence. Instead of going on package tours, I now organize my own expeditions - I subsequently tackled my first 8,000-meter peak and handled all the arrangements myself.

It is an empowering feeling to know that I have now reached the next level.
